The Soundtrack of Meds’ Decade-long Music Journey
From the Indie Pop-Rock road of 46 Hope St., multi-talented singer-songwriter Meds Rana is taking bold leaps to become a solo artist! With an unyielding passion for writing and producing music that resonates with everyone’s hearts, this transition marks a captivating chapter in his career as he ventures out to find the unique tune of his own story.
A decade in the making, his newest solo single, “Malapit Na,” reflects on the difficulties he faced more than 10 years ago and how hope emerged on the horizon. Back then, he didn’t harbor dreams of starting a band or releasing music. Rana shares, “I don’t really see music as a passion I chose. It’s more like music chose me. Ganoon ko siya naf-feel all throughout my life because, believe it or not, I tried to quit music so many times.” But life has a way of working its magic, and this song plays an instrumental part in Meds’ journey towards his solo music career, patiently waiting for the right moment to shine!
With his extraordinary ability to infuse courage and confidence into his lyrics, Meds became known for his previous band’s empowering singles like ‘Parisukat Sa Bilog’ which tackles the importance of being unapologetically yourself, and unsurprisingly, his newest solo single shares the same strength and encouragement—a pep talk to his younger self to keep going, “Naalala ko back then, ang struggle ko was, aside from my dad being sick, parang hindi ko [rin] alam kung ipu-pursue ko ba yung music… kung ano gagawin ko.” and ‘Malapit Na’ perfectly encapsulates this journey and the faint echoes of his trust in the future, showing that even when things don’t make sense right now, somehow there are going to be better days ahead. “Okay din magkaroon ng konting tapang about the future; na it could work out or fall into place someday,” he emphasized.
In collaboration with his record label, Widescope Entertainment, and his mentor, Ebe Dancel, Meds rediscovered ‘Malapit Na’ from a different angle, breathing new life into a track that was more than a decade old. And despite the song being written when he was so much younger, he stresses that it is still relevant as ever.
As he continues to empower and uplift listeners through his solo music, he invites his fans to be a source of inspiration for others as well. He urges them, “Try to be a light sa ibang tao.”
A powerful message and a reassurance of better days, ‘Malapit Na’ serves as a lifeline for those seeking hope in the midst of their struggles, with a reminder from Meds that as long as you keep moving forward despite the trying times, eventually, you will see Malapit Ka Na.
