This release signifies a landmark moment for both the label and Cabangon, marking their inaugural collaboration in honoring the vibrant culture of the North. The unique partnership brought to light is not just a song, but a cultural bridge that connects the local Ilocano dialect with contemporary pop music.

The title “Umaycan” meaning “Come with me” or “Come on” in Ilocano, invites listeners to embark on a journey with Cabangon as he sings about love and longing. He also shares one of his favorite lines from the track, “Nu adda marikriknam, ragragsak wennu lidliday, saan ka nga agbabain tapnu adda ti wayawaya” (if you’re feeling happy and sad, do not hesitate, to feel more freedom) which captures the essence of embracing emotions and fully experiencing life.

The song was composed by Cabangon in collaboration with his fellow musician from the north, Ramonne. Upon transition with the chorus of the song, the two further revealed their native tongue, rediscovering its beautiful capacity to express their emotions in a new and profound way. Though not without its challenges as they’ve also found themselves often thinking in three different languages: namely English, Tagalog, and Ilocano. However, as they continued the process of crafting the song, it became much clearer that this message was meant to be told in Ilocano. The music arrangement by Kahlil Refuerzo further adds depth and richness to the song, complementing Cabangon’s heartfelt vocals.

The message behind “Umaycan” is clear —pop music, when fused with local languages, can create a powerful platform for cultural expression and understanding.
