The Courage to Move Forward: Jamie, Ashley and Cath as
Senior Account Executives

Widescope Advertising Agency

By Karla Calingo

There is no one sure path to success. Each individual must carve their way through life in pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. This principle is what’s so clearly shown in the stories of these three incredible women in their journey to becoming Senior Account Executives. Jamie Victoria, Ashley Arca, and Cath Tolentino set out on different paths to pursue excellence. Yet have all ended up together under one roof, Widescope Advertising.

Jamie Victoria joined the agency in 2019, fresh from college and hungry to get into the world of advertising. Colleagues describe her as a breath of fresh air, a ball of energy, and a true joy to be around. When asked about the start of her journey, she states: “I always knew that I would go into advertising. It was what I wanted more than anything. I did my college internship with another agency that was really far from where I was living at the time, but I never got tired. If I ever did, it was the good kind of tired. It was the kind of tired that came from a hard day’s work.”

She shares that though the world of advertising may have seemed daunting at first, she was never one to back down from a challenge. Due to her courage and unwavering resolve to develop the best projects for her clients, her talents couldn’t go unnoticed. While on a more tender note, when asked about her biggest motivations, she shared: “As an AE, you witness everyone’s hard work that goes into the project, and it was on me to make sure those efforts would be worth it. You take a look around, and you want to do right by the team.” Although Jamie is the youngest among our Senior Account Executives, she wasn’t the only one to join Widescope as a fresh graduate in 2019.

Ashley Arca also joined our ranks as her first job that same year. Unlike Jamie, Ashley was looking to get into the public relations industry prior to joining Widescope. She’s intelligent and incredibly well-spoken. Her passion for excellent communication and establishing impeccable relationships with clients have been some of the most significant factors to her success. When discussing how her passions have motivated her, she shares: “My relationship with my clients motivated me to better support and love the brands that I handle. It’s great to know that we’re treated as partners and collaborators while our opinions are also highly valued. The promotion was sudden, but I am truly grateful that my love for the brands and the people I work with blossomed into all of this.”

Once Ashley immersed herself in the advertising industry, her skills and steadfast determination quickly proved invaluable assets to any project. She also shares that her team’s trust and support have helped her become a better Account Executive and as an individual outside of the organization. Ashley imparts that being in the advertising industry requires a lot of grit and patience. The industry is constantly evolving. Your willingness to adapt to these changes is what will set you apart from the rest. A sentiment mirrored by one of the newcomers to Widescope but certainly one to watch out for, Cath.

Amid a global pandemic, Cath Tolentino joined the team in April 2020, but she certainly took it in stride. She shares that learning the ropes in a new company online has been challenging but has helped her communication skills rise to a whole new level. Her warm and welcoming personality has gotten her colleague’s attention even through the screen. Though Cath is one of the latest members of the agency, she’s no newbie in the advertising industry. The knowledge she’s gained from her previous experiences, and her openness to evolving has catapulted her to achieve great things in our organization.

Looking back at her career and the moments that have stood out the most for her, she shares: “The memorable moments are the times I encountered difficulties or made some mistakes. With those experiences, I can be wiser and do better, even if it’s just little by little. That’s progress. If there’s one thing I’d do differently, I wouldn’t beat myself up for having those difficulties and realize it’s part of the process and our growth. These are the stories that are more fun to tell too.” Her eagerness to deliver and positive attitude have influenced her colleagues even with the company’s current work-from-home setup. She also highlights the support of her family and constant prayers as the pillars of her success.

Three phenomenal women in the world of advertising and all their journeys have a clear common thread weaved through them; it’s your resilience in the midst of challenges that makes all the difference. They all share a similar sentiment: as Account Executives who handle multiple clients and juggle multiple departments for project coordination, the landscape is ever-changing, and you learn as you go. You can’t let your fear of failing stop you from trying to do your best. Your position does not measure success but in the path you’ve taken to get there, in the hours put in and the hurdles one has overcome. Consider success only as a consequence of one’s hard work and determination.

Three women who are as talented as they are humble is an extraordinary feat.

From your Widescope family: Jamie, Ashley, and Cath, congratulations on your well-deserved promotions! We’re all eagerly waiting for what the future has in store for you!
